Gelsomino Eau de Parfum, named after a rare jasmine cultivated in the Stufa dei Mugherini, Villa di Castello. Bergamot, tangerine and pink pepper at the opening. Jasmine sambac, geranium and ylang-ylang at the heart. Cedarwood and musk at the base. In 1688, Cosimo III de' Medici received a rare variety of jasmine from Goa as a gift from King Peter II of Portugal. The plant was tended exclusively by his personal botanists and became known as the Jasmine of the Grand Duke. The Eau de Parfum takes this jasmine as its compositional centre: floral and spiced at the opening, with a woody base. From I Giardini Medicei.

I came to Gelsomino by way of a miniature, and it proved the wiser course. Where lesser jasmines announce themselves with indolic excess, this one wears its white blossoms with a gardener's precision — luminous yet composed, heady without excess, as though the flower were gathered at dawn rather than at dusk. The scent settles beautifully: a luminous floral heart softened by green undertones and a clean, powdery base. It carries with dignity and endures gracefully — the miniature, modest as it was, lasted weeks of daily wear. Several discerning acquaintances remarked upon it unprompted, which I have come to regard as the surest endorsement a fragrance can receive. The full bottle has been ordered; for admirers of jasmine done properly, I can offer no higher counsel.
